Fergusson Educational Center On-Grounds School

Kemmerer Village has an on-grounds school which is an Approved Non-Public Educational Program by the Illinois State Board of Education, located in the Fergusson Educational Center. It is operated in cooperation with the Central A&M school district’s Special Education department. The school staff includes a principal who is certified for School Administration, a School Psychologist and the teaching staff are certified in Special Education for Behavior Disorders and Learning Disabilities. Teacher-to-student ratios average 1:7 per classroom, which allows instruction to be more highly individualized to each student’s academic abilities and needs. Each resident has an Individual Educational Plan (IEP) that is revised and updated, as needed, through the course of the school year, in cooperation with the resident’s guardian.

Residents have the opportunity to be mainstreamed into both Special Education and Regular Education classes within the community’s middle school or high school. There is transportation provided between the on-grounds school and the community schools so that residents can be mainstreamed as gradually as one class at a time, or for half or full days; whatever the resident’s individual abilities and needs will require. The school staff work closely with the Residential staff so that the resident’s treatment plan and IEP are complimentary to the goals of the other. Classroom credits earned by residents while at Kemmerer Village are transferable to any other Illinois school district.
